Work began on 31st October 2020 and it immediately started to look at just how the strips of steel (planks would look as they were fitted. This is the first trial using plywood. As a result, we began having steel cut to 6" wide strips. The whole point of this is that wherries (with the one exception of Albion) were clinker built, which helped to achieve the wonderful shape. Thus, a little while on, the boat began to look like this
A while later, the back end began to take shape. It only had to be re-built one more time before I was happy with the shape.
We could then start to move forward
Eventually we arrived at the front.
So it was that we were able to getthe decks in place, along with the standing uprights.
In order to give the outside of the bottoms a long lasting coat of paint and blacking, it had to be turned over. This was achieved with the massive help of Luke Patterson and his farm manager in a teleporteer.
After painting and flipping back over, the wherry could leave our front garden and find it's way on Luke's farm trailer down to the North Walsham and Dilham Canal at the Canoe Hire field Dilham.
That was 17th January 2023. LAUNCH DAY!
